The Grampians – Tenure Review Submission

FMC has submitted on the tenure review proposal for The Grampians Pastoral lease. This large leasehold of around 16,000 hectares sits to the east of the Mackenzie Basin, you pass through the Grampians on the Hakatere road, and as you go through Hakatere Pass the Grampians lease rises to close to 2000metres to the west.
FMC is not satisfied that the proposal has given due regard to the hierarchy of objectives in the Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998, particularly the importance this Act places on ecological sustainability and the protection of significant inherent values. In environments that are naturally unusual such as the river systems of the Mackenzie basin, there will often be unique and rare ecological communities that require more protection than might otherwise be the case.
