We are delighted to welcome the Fiordland Endurance and Adventure Racing (FEAR) Society to FMC. www.fearsociety.co.nz
In a nutshell, FEAR Society are a club whose club trips are adventure races. (Think grass-roots GODZone, without the race T-shirt or prize money, run by club volunteers!). The ethic is tough challenges, through some incredible terrain, with classic kiwi understatement.
FEARSociety president Andy Magness says:
FEARsociety is comprised of a pretty small, ‘niche’ group of outdoor lovers with a strange penchant for shared suffering in beautiful places. While we may not have many members, the ones we do have tend to use the hell out of the wilderness and are big fans of keeping things as wild, pristine, and accessible as possible. FMC shares these goals, so joining was a natural step.
FMC president, Jan Finlayson reflects:
FMC specifically reached out to the Adventure Navigation community in 2016/17 as part of our Outdoor Community Campaign, so its great to see FEARSociety knew that we were keen to welcome clubs like theirs to affiliate. There are so many ways to enjoy our wild places, and together our collective voice is that much stronger to protect the opportunities we love.
If you want to get a taste for the beautiful suffering, here’s some of what the club gets up to:
