Regional Leader Development Courses

The ball is rolling!

FMC was delighted to receive feedback from a significant number of clubs to our letter in May about our idea for clubs to pool resources to put together courses for developing trip leaders.  As we discussed in the Leader Development section of our Outdoor Community resource, leaders are the core of a club: no trip leaders = no trips!  Many clubs have relatively small leader pools. Combining resources within regions is a smart way of getting the critical mass needed to make the effort of putting on such training worthwhile.

The FMC executive re-affirmed their support for the concept at the June 2019 executive meeting, so we have been progressing this project behind the scenes.

FMC is expecting that there will be up to six of these courses run in the coming summer season. These courses are looking to be a mix of single day and weekend events. Currently, we are working with clubs to scope out the courses, dates, contents and budgets. FMC is assisting with putting together funding applications for these courses, helping clubs collaborate, and recording the lessons learned for future organisers.

Our aim is to gain enough funding to heavily subsidise the courses, for the facilitators and student leaders.

Here is the current list of proposed courses and clubs who are hoping to organise them. If your club didn’t reply, or has reconsidered it’s involvement, please get in touch to be involved!
