Holdsworth Jumbo Bookable Huts Trial

From 2013 DOC has undertaken a trial of a booking system on the Holdsworth Jumbo circuit.
This booking system has different characteristics from others around the country, in that the Annual Hut Pass is able to used as payment through the booking system, and that there is no requirement to use the booking system. Bookings are only preferences on a bunk, spare bunks are open to all-comers.
The results of the trial can be read here: Findings – Holdsworth Jumbo Circuit Bookable Hut Trial
FMC’s response can be read here: DOC Holdsworth Jumbo Trial Findings – Holdsworth Jumbo Circuit Bookable Hut Trial
The response can best be described as disappointment in the lack of rigour and objectivity in DOC’s analysis. FMC is not against the use of booking systems provided they are used for the right reasons, managing overcrowding and encouraging participation, but would like to see a more professional assessment of the pros and cons of proposals. FMC and DOC are currently negotiating standard criteria for whether a particular hut or group of huts should enter the booking system.
